UNOCI REHABILITATES PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN TROKOULIMPLEU AND N'GATTAKRO AND ODIENNE PRISON

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), on 8 and 11 June 2013, handed over the keys to the public primary schools in N'Gattakro, in the Department of Bouaké and Trokoulimpleu in Danané Prefecture as well as the main prison in Odienné.

These facilities were rehabilitated by the UN mission as part of its Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) programme.

In N'Gattakro, Robert Gaye from the Child Protection section said that through the project, the 700 children who attend the primary school will now be able to attend classes in acceptable conditions.

Lambert Assa Melaine, the education counselor, who represented the Regional Director of Education, asked parents, students and educators to take care of the renovated facilities and make good use of them. "By helping us UNOCI is contributing to the social development of our city," he added. He also urged parents to send their daughters to school.

In Trokoulimpleu, the inauguration of the school took place in the presence of Jean Baptiste Adou, the representative of the Sub-prefect of Danané, traditional and religious leaders, village elders and members of the school management board of the village.

The class rooms have been equipped with desks, benches and blackboards, and the water and electricity facilities rehabilitated.

By rehabilitating the prison of Odienné, UNOCI aims to improve the living conditions of prisoners and increase the quality of the prison service in Odienné.
