The Government
in Seminar: What will be its priorities for the next six months?

Fraternité Matin

 - Securing goods and people and building peace through the
gathering and the reconciliation of the sons and daughters of Cote d'Ivoire are
the two major challenges the Ivorian government will face over the next six
months, according to the President of the Republic. Another challenge is
reconstruction. On this point, President Alassane Ouattara, who was in a seminar
with his ministers, asked them to work according to the programme upon which he
was elected and act in the context of good governance. "The focus should be on
the restoration and the strengthening of the democratic foundations of our
country. We must redefine and strengthen the pillars of the state," he said. The
aim of the seminar requested by the President of the Republic is to establish a
coherent guideline for government actions.

Anger in the
army/Paul Koffi responds: The end of "haut le Coeur" marks the end of the war

Le Patriote
-
Before the great oral of the Government, the Minister of Defence, Paul Koffi,
was a guest on TV news, on Monday, 4 July.  With the press, Paul Koffi talked
about the problems of security, military uniforms, the suspension of military
allowances called "haut le Coeur" and many others subjects. According to Mr.
Koffi the security situation had considerably changed since the seminar of
Bassam. "There are no other military roadblocks apart from the thirty three (33)
allowed by the seminar," he said. "In Abidjan, efforts have been made. The
security situation has greatly improved since the operation was launched
throughout the entire territory. With regard to the cohabitation within the
Republican forces there should be no problem since the cohabitation has been
made possible since the Ouagadougou Political Agreement (OPA), which stated that
there would be a one army" he added. The minister reassured that FRCI is formed
of the military forces (sea, air and ground), the police and former FAFN.

Soir Info
 -
Michel Amani N'Guessan, former Defence Minister under the deposed regime of
Laurent Gbagbo, has been summoned to appear this week at the Military Tribunal
of Abidjan (TMA), we learned yesterday from a military source. According to the
same source the former Defence Minister will be questioned on the "purchases of
weapons in the United States". The purchase of these weapons had led to the
arrest and subsequent incarceration of Colonel Yao N'Guessan, a former FDS
officer in the United States. The former FDS colonel went to the United States
to purchase weapons from an American firm, before falling, into a trap set by
the U.S. federal police. "The former Defence Minister, Michel Amani N'Guessan,
will be heard by the Military Prosecutor on this action"... Regarding Major Abéhi
who is on run, the military prosecutor Ange Kessy said that he was already under
indictment and will be found and brought to justice.
