Mediation - After Wade's
passage in Côte d'Ivoire, Compaoré is angry

Demain  -

In the land of honest men, hypocritical men are abhorred. It seems that
President Blaise Compaoré, also Facilitator in the Ivorian crisis explicitly
said this to Laurent Gbagbo after Abdoulaye Wade's passage in Côte d'Ivoire. If
the Facilitator is not opposed to the desire or the will of the Ivorian Head of
State to change the mediator, he is complaining about the lack of courtesy and
his way of doing things. For the Burkinabé President, it is indecent that he was
not informed of the new initiative. (...) Before he arrived in Abidjan (...) it
seems that Abdoulaye Wade called Blaise Compaoré and told him that the Ivorian
Head of State asked his help for a new mediation. The associates to President
Blaise Compaoré are speaking about broken pact (...) especially because the
Ivorian President has asked the Malian Head of State Amadou Toumani Touré to
play a major role in the crisis-resolution process in Côte d'Ivoire. It seems
that the Malian President will arrive in Côte d'Ivoire in the coming days to try
to obtain the Forces Nouvelles' disarmament.(...)

The clean-up operation at the
Sorbonne turns into confrontation. Several injured

Soir Info  -

The operation to clear off the 60 accommodations of Plateau, also known as the
"Sorbonne", on Monday 24 May 2010, has not been completed. The reason is a
confrontation between Municipal agents and Sorbonne's tenants. Having been
informed that their accommodation will be destroyed, several tenants of the
Sorbonne, organized around 6.00 AM to oppose the action "by all means". Armed
with sticks, iron bars and machetes, the hysterical tenants confronted municipal
workers, including policemen and public health officers. The fight resulted in
several injured in both camps. In the camp of Plateau agents, the injured are
Blaoua Benoit whose arm was injured and Koné Domé who was wounded in the lip. In
the camp of the Sorbonne's tenants, there are twenty (20) injured as announced
by Nado Clement, the first site manager. Very angry at the failure of the clean
up, Mayor Akossi Benjo was categorical: "We will continue the operation until we
clear off all illegal tenants." (...).

Voters List - ONI wants to
audit it

L'Expression
-The ONI wants to audit
every administrative document that was used for the identification and the
electoral enrollment. By mail, the ONI has already urged the Abidjan district
councils to open their offices to its civil servants. In a letter sent on May
12, the CEO of the ONI, Benjamin Djobo Esso, informed Abidjan municipalities
that its services were about to check out the authenticity of the birth
certificates used for enrollment (...) by doing so the ONI seems to give to the
presidential camp the needed material they will use when the judicial phase of
the appeal on the electoral list starts. (...)

The appeal on the grey list:
the agents of Sagem-security were absent from the enrolment centres.

Le Nouveau Réveil
-
The appeal on the list of 1,033,000 people, commonly called gray list which
started last Monday, May 17, is still in progress. It was supposed to be
completed this week because it was scheduled to be held for ten days. However,
according to several sources many problems are preventing progress in this
operation. In many localities, the officials of the technical operator Sagem
Security were absent though their role is very central to this process. Sagem
and NSI are the two entities whose technical presence is necessary to confirm or
refute the inclusion of people on the electoral list. (...) The absence of Sagem
agents significantly affects the process.
