UNOCI's new
mandate under preparation

The UN Security Council is actively preparing the new mandate of the UN Force in
Côte d'Ivoire. This new resolution will define the new mission of the UN in Côte

The session on the commitment of the media and civil society to the
reinforcement of social cohesion and national reconciliation as initiated by
UNOCI started yesterday in Grand Bassam. Hamadoun Touré, the spokesman of the UN
mission rose to the occasion by inviting Ivorians to promote reconciliation.
"Côte d'Ivoire's future greatly depends on the capacity to govern, to reconcile
with each other" said UNOCI's spokesman at the opening ceremony of the meeting
on the commitment of the media and the civil society in the Lagunes and Sud
Comoé regions for the reinforcement of social cohesion and reconciliation.

Dohiriguekaha/social action: a school rehabilitated and furnished by UNOCI

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) handed over to the
authorities in Dohiriguekaha on 17 June 2011 the keys to a primary school that
it rehabilitated and furnished in the locality situated in the Sinematiali
district as part of the mission's Quick Impact Project programme. Valued at
8,370,000 Fcfa, the donation involved the total renewal of six classes, the
office of the director as well as latrines and the furnishing of the premises:
150 desk-benches, 7 desks and chairs and 7 cupboards. (...)




 




National
reconciliation: UNOCI is still working

The Days of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), a series of
activities of information and sensitization for social cohesion and
reconciliation had an important moment in Mbahiakro with the holding of a forum
with the population on Friday. (...) The youths in Mbahiakro expressed their
commitment to respect the law, the rights and duties of every citizen to avoid
every conflict which can stem from not respecting the established laws. (...)
Women recommended a greater involvement of women in decision-making. The
journalists in the N'zi Comoé region promised to respect the principles and the
rules of professional ethics. And the traditional, community and religious
leaders outlined their role and said they wished UNOCI's assistance in
organising training seminars for them. [...]

recruited as peacekeepers

The undesirable elements of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI):
the future UN peacekeepers in the world. This is what could be the next
destination of the numerous FRCI on the streets of Abidjan who cannot be
absorbed by the new Ivorian army. This proposal was made on Tuesday 14 June (...)
by Jean Claude Kouassi, the Special Adviser to Prime Minister Guillaume Soro in
charge of the State's big projects. For him, it could be a solution to the
problems of demobilization, reintegration and the fight against poverty in the
Ouattara army.

President Alassane Ouattara who constantly said we must reconcile. (...) This

Cooperation
between France and Côte d'Ivoire on security: Hamed Bakayoko obtains guaranties
in Paris.

(...) The Minister of the Interior, Hamed Bakayoko is leading a delegation in
Paris where he met with Claude Gueant, his French counterpart. On this occasion
he (...) recalled that the consequences are important and perceptible. "The
security situation is still worrying but we have made good progress" he said.
"The institutions in charge of accompanying the process of national
reconciliation are so damaged that they cannot function efficiently" he added.
This is why he asked for France's support. (...) he especially mentioned "the
reorganization of the Ministry of the Interior through technical assistance;
training and reinforcing the capacities of professionals; the rehabilitation of
the damaged infrastructures; the re-equipment of the territory administration
and the National Office of Civil Protection etc."




 




Reorganizing the
army: Ouattara is late

Some elements of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) were firing in
Yopougon on Friday 17 June 2011 reminding the inhabitants of this municipality
of the trauma of the war. Other elements of the FRCI are still refusing to lay
down their arms and military uniforms in Toumodi. Two facts that show that it is
urgent to establish order within the Ivorian armed forces. The government is
working on it but things seem to progress slowly. The urgency of the security
situation demands that this work is done quickly in order to give a reassuring
image of the army.

actions are to be congratulated (...) we should not ignore that beyond the

without Ebrié people"

Some Ebrié villages did not hide their support for Laurent Gbagbo in spite of

The village of Anonkoi Kouté experienced violent clashes that forced the
inhabitants to run away and take refuge in other neighbourhoods.  Today we
consider that this belongs to the past. The situation is almost normal.

Do you have a message to the Atchan people?




Akré Georges:

(...) When we saw the Atchan youth before the Golf Hotel to dislodge President
Alassane Ouattara, we were under the shock. We do not want to hear or see such

Yakassé-Attobrou
RHDP and LMP are reconciled

There was a good atmosphere on Saturday in Yakassé-Attobrou. On the village
square, all the sons and daughters in Yakassé-Attobrou moved to take part in the
ceremony for national reconciliation. (...) Having been initiated by the deputy
Commander of the FRCI in the zone, Mr. Inza Koné and the regional Prefect, Mr.
Yacouba Doumbia, this ceremony was attended by Aye Aye Alexandre of the PDCI,
Seka Pierre Roche of the UDPCI, Seka Seka of the PIT, Assi Benie of the LMP and
al the traditional chiefs in the district.
