Choi discusses
crisis-resolution process with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Young Jin Choi yesterday discussed the post-election situation
with the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erick Solheim. After the meeting
Erick Solheim said he came to exchange views with UNOCI Chief on the resolution
of the Ivorian crisis and the assistance his country could give in the aftermath
of the electoral crisis. "I came to thank Mr. Choi and UNOCI for their
contribution to the resolution of the Ivorian crisis and for providing security
for the personnel serving in the Norwegian Embassy", he said.




 




UNOCI continues
neutralization of bombs

The operation to neutralize bombs is ongoing. According to
UNOCI's evaluation done yesterday, 45 sites out of 60 have already been cleared
of the harmful engines. 




 




National
cohesion: UNOCI's peace caravan visits Agnibilekro

A peace caravan initiated by the United Nations Operation in Côte
d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in collaboration with the United Nations Programme for
Development (UNDP) in Bondoukou on 1st June 2011 travelled through
the streets of the town of Agnibilekro, locality situated in the Moyen-Comoé
region, 265 km east of Abidjan. UNOCI's Public Information officer in Bondoukou,
Désiré Ndagijimana said that this activity was part of the sensitization for
reconciliation and social cohesion campaign. According to Mr. Ndagijimana, in
response to the call by the Ivorian government and to support the campaign, the
United Nations agencies based in Bondoukou initiated the organization of this
caravan since 19 April 2011. "War has destroyed much of this country and to make
development possible, resentment should be forbidden and we should accept to
forgive. I ask you to give this message of peace in all the towns and villages
throughout the district" he said.

(Facilitator's representative): "We are going to re-orient the Ouagadougou
Agreement"

The other aspects of the Ouagadougou Political Agreement that
have not been executed yet, were discussed by the Chairman of the Supreme Court
and the Facilitator. The new tenant of the Supreme Court, Koné Mamadou on
Wednesday exchanged views with the representative of the Facilitator of the
Ouagadougou Political Agreement, Boureima Badini at the headquarters of the
institution in Cocody. After the meeting he said he had already met with
President Alassane Ouattara, Premier Guillaume Soro and many other actors in the
country to see with them how "we are going to re-orient" the Ouagadougou
Political Agreement. He said there were some remaining aspects, especially the
military aspect which involves the 4th complementary agreement which
should be reviewed today. "We are going to see how to handle it to allow for a
harmonious and definitive resolution of the crisis.

Now

Ouattara's new
government: 36 Ministers to reposition the country

The Ivorian government is complete now. From 13 members on 5 December 2010, the
government of President Ouattara is now composed of 36 Ministers. (...) In this
widely open government which results from "much gratitude" two important
absences are noted: the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) of former President Laurent
Gbagbo and the Ivorian Party of Workers (PIT) of Prof. Francis Vangah Wodié who
was an open ally to the Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP).

government/Why the FPI did not join it

June 2011 at the headquarters of the National Congress for Resistance and
Democracy (CNRD) in Cocody to assess the situation and think about the future.
(...) Prof. Mamadou Coulibaly rose to the occasion by informing his comrades of
the reasons why the FPI did not join the government. (...) "We cannot participate
in a government while our comrades are suffering. When someone is crying it is
not the time to give him food. He should be comforted first," said an elected

Watch accuses: Laurent Gbagbo's activists have been tortured and killed by the
Ouattara forces

The armed forces loyal to President Alassane Ouattara have killed at least 149
real of alleged activists of former President Laurent Gbagbo since they took
control of the economic capital in mid-April 2011, said Human Rights Watch
today. (...) The murders, tortures and inhuman treatments continued while a
researcher of Human Rights Watch was in Abidjan, targeting ethnic groups during
generalized reprisals. "The hope for a new era after the investiture of
President Ouattara will fade quickly if these horrible exactions against the
pro-Gbagbo groups do not stop immediately", said Corinne Dufka, senior
researcher on West Africa in Human Rights Watch. (...)




 




The death of the
French Director of the Novotel in Abidjan confirmed

The French Director of the Novotel Hotel in Abidjan who was kidnapped on 4 April
2011 by armed men who allegedly worked for the former Ivorian President Laurent
Gbagbo, is dead, the French magistrate in charge of the investigation to his
family confirmed on Thursday. (...) "The judge called the family to announce the
death but she did not explicitly confirm that the dead body had been
identified", said the office of Mr. Pierre-Olivier Sur to Reuters.

Yamoussoukro:
The financial Director of the INP-HB has been found dead in his bedroom

Brou Dégré Paul, the financial Director of the National Polytechnic Institute
Felix Houphouet-Boigny of Yamoussoukro has been found dead in his bedroom on
Wednesday 1st June 2011. According to the family, he returned from
work at 3.00 pm without any abnormal behaviour. Paul Dégré Pierre went to his
bedroom. The rest which lasted until 7.00 pm raised the curiosity of his wife
who then attempted to wake him up. At this moment she noted that he was
obviously sick. (...) He was therefore evacuated to the regional hospital where he
is said to have died. (...) The deceased is an activist of the Presidential
Majority (LMP). (...) Suspected of having hidden arms, the house had been searched
by elements of the FRCI. His death occurs only a few days after he returned to
his home.
