UNPOL DONATES COMPUTERS AND OFFICE MATERIALS TO IVORIAN GENDARMERIE

Abidjan, 5 October 2012... The UN Police (UNPOL) in Cote d'Ivoire has handed over a significant consignment of computers and office materials destined for some gendarmerie brigades in Abidjan to the Commander of the Gendarmerie, General Kouassi Kouakou.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Deputy Chief of UNPOL, Commissioner Abdounasir Awale reaffirmed the unfailing willingness of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) to continue to support the Ivorian forces of law and order in the accomplishment of their duties.

"We are here to support you and to assist you in the restoration of the national gendarmerie," Commissioner Awale said.

On his part, General Kouassi Kouakou said that the donation of the equipment was very timely. "The donation of this equipment has come as a relief to my staff and would enable them to produce good quality work," he declared.

It should be recalled that UNPOL has recently donated computers and office materials to various police stations in the Abidjan district.

Besides office equipment and the rehabilitation of police stations and gendarmerie brigades, UNPOL has organized several training programmes to enhance the professional capacity of policemen and gendarmes in different parts of the country.
