UNOCI DONATES THREE CLASSROOMS TO EPP PONT BRIMÉ

San Pedro, 18 December 2009... The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on Thursday, 17 December, donated three classrooms to a public primary school in Pont Brimé, 12 km from the sub prefecture of San Pedro.

The construction of the classrooms was within the framework of UNOCI's accompaniment to the crisis-resolution process through its Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) programme.

"Through this project, UNOCI wants to improve the learning conditions for students in the school," said the chief of UNOCI's delegation, Dieudonné Sindayigaya, during the inauguration of the premises.

The administrative authorities and the high officials in the village expressed their gratitude for the UNOCI initiative. The Regional Director of Education in Bas-Sassandra, Pongathié Abraham, requested the construction of three more classrooms in order to complete the primary school cycle and expressed the hope that desk-benches for the children and offices for the teachers would also be provided in the future.

The primary school in Pont Brimé caters for 329 children with two full-time and three volunteer teachers.
