SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE STARTS ENCOUNTERS WITH IVORIAN ACTORS

Abidjan, 6 January 2010... The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y. J. Choi, on Wednesday, 6 January 2010, in Abidjan, held talks with the leader of the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire (PDCI) on various aspects of the Ivorian electoral process.

The working session was part of a series of encounters scheduled by Mr. Choi with the main Ivorian actors before he goes to the United Nations headquarters in New York to attend a Security Council meeting on Côte d'Ivoire on 21 January 2010.

On Monday, 5 January 2010, he met with the leader of the Rally for Republicans (RDR), Alassane Dramane Ouattara.

The discussions of the chief of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire with the leaders of the PDCI and RDR focused on the successful organisation of the appeals regarding the provisional electoral list as well as the remaining stages of the electoral process.

Mr. Choi also reiterated UNOCI's willingness to continue its support for the Ivorian electoral process.
