UNOCI:
A new deputy Special Representative appointed

Appointed as Deputy Special Representative in May, Antoine Arnauld Akodjenou
from Benin replaces Abou Musa, a Chad national who has been appointed Special
Representative of the Secretary General and Head of United Nations Regional
Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) based in Libreville, Gabon, the statement
said. The new Deputy Special Representative of Ban Ki-Moon for Côte d'Ivoire
began his career in 1986 in Djibouti, as associate social services officer with
the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).




 




Elections: EU and UN ready to help the IEC

 - The president of the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Youssouf Bakayoko had a series of
meetings, on Monday July 25 at the headquarters of the institution in Cocody II
Plateaux, with several international partners. He met with a delegation of the
European Union (EU) led by, the diplomat Thierry de Saint Maurice. They talked
about the coming general elections. It must be noted that the European Union, is
one of the financial, material and logistical support for Ivorian elections.
After EU delegation the chairman of the IEC received a large delegation of the
5th Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations. On this occasion,
Youssouf Bakayoko said that his institution was working hard to make possible
the next general elections before the end of year. The coordinator of the
Committee, George Orina said that the United Nations will continue to support
the IEC.

a Ghanaian military delegation visits UNOCI

 - The Deputy Special
Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Côte d'Ivoire,
Ndolamb Ngokwey, met on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, with officials of the Ghanaian
army, led by Navy General Mohammed Tahiru. This delegation which will be present
in Côte d'Ivoire from 26 to 31 July 2011 came to visit the Ghanaian contingent
to inquire about the working conditions. They will provide an update on the
status of equipment used in the context of its mission within the United Nations
Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI). "We came to thank UNOCI for its assistance
to our contingent and encourage our troops to work harder and give a little more
to Cote d'Ivoire. We came to tell our soldiers that they are here as ambassadors
of Ghana and should be exemplary, especially as it is our closest neighbour and
one of our first international partners" General Tahiru said. The delegation
travelled to Bouake on Tuesday to meet with the Ghanaian contingent working at
the hospital of UNOCI. The delegation will then go to Bondoukou for the medals
parade of Ghanaian soldiers on July 29, 2011.



 



The
reason for President Ouattara's trip to the United States

World Bank and IMF and possibly solicit financial support. Alassane Ouattara
wants to undertake major projects, fight against poverty and unemployment
through the creation of centers of wealth. To go fast and provide an opportunity
for Ivorians to judge him based on his achievements, the head of state decided
to go to Washington earlier than planned, where he will head the Ivorian
delegation to discuss the programme of emergency assistance to Côte d'Ivoire.
Alassane Ouattara intends to obtain from donors, a more rapid disbursement of

Will Paul Yao N'dré be charged?

 - Professor Paul Yao N'dré,
President of the Constitutional Council, was sacked last Monday by Alassane
Ouattara. He was replaced by Francis Wodié. Paul Yao N'dré may be arrested. This
cannot be ruled out, according to statements by Alphonse Soro, a cousin of
Guillaume Soro Kigbafori. Some people believe that Guillaume Soro's cousin

information was given by Bertin Kouadio Konan, president of Youth PDCI-RDA;

the RTI wants to reconcile Ivorians

the Ivorian Radio and Television (RTI) will come back. The company will come
with a redesigned logo and a new design and a more inclusive content to achieve
peace and national reconciliation. The national television has been criticized
by several components of our society for its role in exacerbating social
divisions and passions, (unbalanced and biased treatment of information,
advocacy of, etc...) in the past. The objective of the new RTI is to reconcile
Ivorians.
