UNOCI's reinforcement, China
and Russia vote today

The UN Security Council
will vote on Tuesday the convoy of 2000 additional soldiers in Côte d'Ivoire to
reinforce pressure on the incumbent, Laurent Gbagbo, some diplomats said on
Monday.  This figure is the maximum asked by the chiefs of peacekeeping forces
who fear clashes with the forces close to Mr. Gbagbo who attacked UN vehicles
and peacekeepers.

UNOCI promises 110 tons of
food for displaced persons in the 18 montagnes region

During a visit from 14 to 16 January 2011 to the displaced living in the 18
montagnes region, especially in Man, Danané and Duekoué, the humanitarian
coordinator of the United Nations agencies, Ndolamb Ngokwey, disclosed to the
administrative authorities that hundred tons of food, medicines, mats and
blankets will arrive very soon.

surroundings of the Central Bank of West Africa States (BCEAO) in Plateau, was

Odinga believes that a direct
dialogue between Gbagbo and Ouattara is possible

Raila Odinga
is not giving up. In spite of the initial refusal of Ouattara's camp, the
African Union's mediator comes back with the idea of direct dialogue between
Gbagbo and Alassane Ouattara.  Some close sources even announced that this could

-The Kenyan Prime Minister
Raila Odinga, mediator in the Ivoirian post electoral crisis declared yesterday,
after a meeting with President Gbagbo, that the discussion between the two
parties could start if President Ouattara agrees on several point proposed by
Gbagbo's camp. According to Mr. Odinga some progress has been made.

chiefs of staff of the ECOWAS armies meet today in Bamako

The Joint Chiefs of
Staff of the armies of member countries of the Economic Community of African
States (ECOWAS) met on Tuesday in Bamako to finalize the military option to
"restore democracy in Côte d'Ivoire," according to a source close to the meeting
. "We are here to make ready a plan that could be used if the military option is
asked to restore democracy in Cote d'Ivoire", an officer told AFP.




 




EU banned the ports of
Abidjan and San Pedro to merchant ships

Merchant ships registered in the EU were prevented from accessing the main ports
of  in Cote d'Ivoire, the first producer of cocoa following the sanctions
against Laurent Gbagbo for his refusal to accept the results of the presidential
election, a EU diplomat said on Monday.

Marcel Gossio said on Monday that the decision by the EU to ban
the Port of Abidjan to merchant ships was stupid and irresponsible. The European
Union has banned the ports of San Pedro and Abidjan to merchant ship as part of
sanctions against Gbagbo for his refusal to cede the power to Ouattara
.
