Agreement on
final voters list / UNOCI: « It is a historic action"

(...) While welcoming the adoption by the four leaders of an
agreement on the final voters list, the UN institution said through a statement
that it constituted a significant progress in the electoral process and
identification. "It reassures the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire that
this progress will help produce the final voters list and hold the presidential
election as it was scheduled. It also reassures UNOCI that the agreement will
further consolidate the past achievements in the identification operation. In
this connection, this agreement represents a historic action because millions of
people will receive their identity cards for the first time. (...)"





 





Chairman of the
RDR holds talks – Y.J. Choi referring to electoral process: "We are going
through a decisive phase"

To be on the same wavelength. This was the reason for the meeting held by the
RDR candidate in the presidential election scheduled for 31 October, Alassane
Dramane Ouattara, with the Special Representative of the United Nations
Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y.J. Choi yesterday at his residence in
Riviera. For more than half an hour, ADO and Choi assessed the current
significant progress in the crisis-resolution process. At the end of the
tête-à-tête, the representative of Ban Ki Moon in Côte d'Ivoire, referring to
the holding of the upcoming presidential election, said he was optimistic: "I
feel optimistic when I note the significant progress that stemmed from the
meeting of the parties involved in the process. It is a decisive phase we are
going through and we congratulate the Ivorian political actors." With regard to
the certification of the list and electoral documents, the diplomat was clear:
"We have not the final voters list yet, but we are satisfied to know that
millions of Ivorian people will receive their identity cards. We are going to
work to make it happen", he said and he outlined the work that UNOCI, the Force
Licorne and the Integrated Command Centre (ICC) will do to provide security. (...)





 





Transportation
of electoral documents and security arrangements / Bédié obtains a compromise
from Choi.

The transportation of electoral documents before and after the voting process
will be assured by the Impartial Forces only. It was yesterday at a meeting
between Choi and Bédié that the chairman of the PDCI, (...) got the Special
Representative of the UN Secretary-General to make this promise on behalf of the
international community.





 





UNOCI and the
ICC conducted inspection

The Instruction Group 4 of Korhogo was yesterday inspected by UNOCI and the ICC.
The objective of UNOCI and the ICC when inspecting the military cantonment sites
was to evaluate the cantonment operation which was launched in this locality on
15 June. The Chief of delegation, regional coordinator of Sector East, Alassane
Fall, said he was satisfied with the smooth inspection.

"The
whole visit was smoothly conducted.

A lot of efforts
have been made but a lot of efforts still need to be made to complete the
operation, especially regarding logistical problems », he said. 





 





 





Ivorian police
trained by the United Nations

The training session for thirty officers of the Republican Unit
of Security (CRS) and the anti-riot Brigade (BAE) continued on Wednesday 8
September with a practical training course on the maintenance of law and order
at the National Police School in Abidjan. According to the Instructor-in-chief,
Lieutenant Jean-Pierre of UNPOL, the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI)
through this training programme, wants to contribute to the organization of
peaceful elections in Côte d'Ivoire. Commissioner Beda Pacôme, Deputy Commander
of the CRS2, on behalf of the leadership of the Ivorian police, expressed his
appreciation for the training session which, he said, will give the elements the
opportunity to learn new techniques on the maintenance of law and order that
will be useful on the ground.





 





The IEC
discloses the date when voters list will be posted

Speaking at a meeting yesterday, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)
announced the date for the publication of the voters list which is scheduled
from 10 to 12 October 2010. For the IEC's Chairman, nothing will prevent the
holding of elections.





 





Ivorian crisis:
Rebel Chief discloses: "France and Compaoré want to kill us"

The information is credible. The ex-rebels in Bouaké are concerned since the
confrontation between rebel factions on Tuesday that resulted in three serious
injured. According to an anonymous ex-rebel, Guillaume Soro's elements are
scared. According to the ex-combatant, they fear a double attack from France and
Burkina Faso which was during the war, one of their main supporters. "I realize
that what we did was in vain. We have been used and now we are useless. So we
have to be killed." (...)
