Y. J. Choi after a meeting
with Gbagbo: « Everything must be done to maintain peace and stability »

Le Patriote  –

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte
d'Ivoire, Young Jin Choi was, early June in New York, United States, where he
attended the latest United Nations Security Council. And one part of the meeting
focused on the Ivorian situation. On his return from the United States, Young J.
Choi met with President Laurent Gbagbo, on Thursday 24 June 2010 at the
President's office to brief him on the meeting. "I have come to inform the Head
of State of the discussions held early June in New York and also to see in
general how to work together for the emergence-from-the crisis. We have two ways
to resolve the crisis-resolution process; that is to say, elections and
reunification. In this regard, everything must be done to maintain peace and
stability in Côte d'Ivoire. On this basis, we can build two pillars
(reunification and elections). In order to do so, we should first of all
concentrate on the definitive electoral list which will pave the way for the
feasibility of the two pillars: since the definitive list will resolve the
identification issue and end the deadlock in the issue of the national identity
card".

Medias and NGOs to think about their involvement in the search for a peaceful
electoral environment. Speaking during the workshop's opening ceremony, the

working session, UNOCI is helping Côte d'Ivoire through civil society to prevent
every sort and form of violence before, during and after elections. Conflicts
