ELECTORAL PROCESS:UNOCI CHIEF VISITS SEGUELA COORDINATION CENTRE

Séguéla, 19 August 2009... The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y. J. Choi arrived in Séguéla on Wednesday, 19 August 2009, for the second leg of his mission to the interior of the country.

The head of UNOCI, who was received on his arrival by the Prefect of the region, Brahima Fofana, visited the coordination centre in the Rymer neighbourhood of the city.

Opened on 20 July 2009, the centre has dealt with 63,154 files during the data processing phase.

Mr. Choi encouraged the operators to continue their work in order to ensure that the deadline for the publication of the provisional electoral list is respected. He said that he had taken note of the salary concerns of some identification agents he had met at the centre.

Yesterday, Mr. Choi visited the identification centre in Bouaké where the SAGEM manager briefed him on the situation. The manager said that the centre, which opened on 31 July, had finished processing the data from 235 220 petitioners. The technical operator was now checking for any double entries and had already processed 215,000 files.
