UNOCI: 96 police
officers receive United Nations medal

 - The Special Representative of the United Nations
Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y.J. Choi, on Friday, 8 July 2011, in
Abidjan, handed the United Nations medal to 96 police officers from 15 countries
who had served with UNOCI for more than six months.  Speaking at the ceremony,
Mr. Choi expressed the UN's gratitude to the recipients for their devotion and
sacrifice particularly during the post-electoral crisis. « You were exposed
to risk during this serious crisis that
Côte d'Ivoire went through and
you met the challenge in order to ensure that you carried out the mission which
was assigned to you », he said,
urging them to redouble their efforts to
help the Mission
« meet the new challenges it is facing
in accompanying Côte d'Ivoire in the reconciliation, reconstruction and
democratic process ».




Earlier, the
chief of UNOCI police component, , Jean-Marie Bourry, explained the mandate of
his section, which according to him, was to  contribute to providing security
for the population, reconstruction and reform of security sector in order to
contribute to lasting peace and democracy in Côte d'Ivoire, while strictly
respecting the laws. Praising the courage and honour of the recipients, who
during four months jointly carried robust patrols with the military, guarded and
defended sites which were under incessant attacks, Mr. Bourry invited the UNPOL
to continue to reflect on their behavior and their service. "This is with the
aim of improving and renewing the oath to carry the duties of the mission and
the mandate of the police, » he said.  
Momene Dydy, from the Democratic
Republic of Congo, one of the 96 officers, renewed the commitment of the
recipients to remain ambassadors of peace in their respective countries and
pursue the accomplishment of the mission... (...)




 




Korhogo/peace
and social cohesion: UNOCI reconciles teachers through sport

The United
Nations Operation for Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on Friday, 8 July 2011, took part in
a reconciliation match with the teachers from the Lycée municipal in Korhogo,
580 km north of Abidjan. Mistrust and division started between the teachers
during the post-electoral crisis and the administration during its
reconciliation efforts sought UNOCI's involvement in a Maracana football match
between teams composed of teachers from both sides of the political divide,
the Rassemblement des Houphouétistes pour la Démocratie et la Paix
and La
Majorité présidentielle
in an effort to bring them closer.

 – There are 24 of them, Laurent Gbagbo's supporters who were in the Hotel La
nouvelle Pergola in Abidjan-Marcory zone 4 c. After having been examined on 25
June 2011, a number of them thought they were going to be sent to the Maison
d'arrêt et de correction d'Abidjan (Maca)
once work there was completed.
But
the Ivorian authorities have decided otherwise.

On Saturday, 9 July 2011,
between 3 and 4 in the morning, according to several sources, the officials were
transferred to prison in Boundiali (extreme north). Among them were Laurent
Gbagbo's former Prime Minister, Gilbert Marie Aké N'Gbo, former ministers Alcide
Djédjé, Désiré Dallo, Christine Adjobi, Danielle Boni Claverie, Joseph Kata
Kété... the former governor of the Central Bank of West Africa (Bceao), Philippe
Henri Dacoury-Tabley. There is also Franck Anderson Kouassi, former chairman of
the National Council for Audiovisual Communication (CNCA), Armand Bohui Komé,
journalist and former member of the National Press Council (CNP), Norbert
Gnahoua Zibrabi, former publication director of the newspaper L`Oeil du
peuple
and former technical adviser to Laurent Gbagbo, Simone Hué Lou,
former deputy director general of "La Refondation", the production company of
the newspaper Notre Voie, Germain Guézé. (...)




 




 





To facilitate
quick credit – The IMF donates 65 billion Fcfa for Côte d'Ivoire




Le Patriote
 – The last meeting between the IMF
and Ivorian authorities bore fruit. In effect, Côte d'Ivoire has just renewed
its relationship with this institution which has just donated 130 million euros,
being 65 billion Fcfa as part of its Facilitation of Quick Credit programme
which was the object of discussions during an IMF mission in Abidjan, from 18
May to 1st June.

Duekoué – More deaths!

Duékoué continuous to suffer atrocities, executions and deaths.
Last Friday, 8 July 2011, three Guéré youths, two of whom are nephews of
 Minister Eric Kahé, a native of , near Duékoué and a supporter of Laurent
Gbagbo, were assassinated by armed men described by the family of the victims as
members of the Forces républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI).

Congrès national de la résistance pour la démocratie (CNRD)

held an assessment meeting to
remobilise their troops on Saturday, 9 July 2011 in Cocody, in the presence of
their acting president of the FPI, Professor Mamadou Koulibaly.

The issue of participation
in future elections was discussed.

From now on the CNRD intends to play its role as the opposition

Legislative
elections – The PIT formalises its alliance with the RHDP

 - The presidential college of the
Parti ivoirien des travailleurs (PIT) has decided to « formalise the
relationship between the PIT and the RHDP ». The PIT therefore intends to remain
an ally of the Rassemblement des Houphouétistes pour la démocratie et la paix
(Rhdp)
for the legislative elections. The decision was made public during a
press conference held by its spokesman, Professor Kouadio N`Guessan Jérémie....
