UN mission to
launch operation in northern Cote d'Ivoire, Panapress, 10 November 2009-


The UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI), will on Tuesday launch
operation "Route Ouverte", a military operation aimed at guaranteeing the
freedom of movement along the major the north-south road to neighbouring Burkina
Faso (...). The operation will be launched in the region of the Savannahs in the
north of the country, the statement said on Monday. "This operation has no
target and its purpose is to ensure that local populations and international
workers carry out their daily jobs in peace", the head of ONUCI operations,
Colonel Patrick Chanliau, said. He added that another objective for that
operation is to show the capacity and t he determination of the UN force to keep
open the most important major roads in t he country under any circumstance. Five
battalions deployed in several sectors will be involved in the operation
expected to last about one week. Military operations of this kind were launched
by ONUCI in western Cote d'Ivoire, particularly in Bangolo and Logouale, from
6-9 September of this year.

Les journalistes
d'Adzopé s'engagent pour l'équité du genre dans le traitement de l'information,

Un séminaire de formation portant sur la Gestion des medias dans la perspective
du genre en période post-crise, au profit des journalistes de la région
d'Adzopé, a pris fin ce vendredi 6 novembre, par un engagement des journalistes
de promouvoir désormais le genre dans le traitement de l'information Les 25
participants ont unanimement et volontairement pris cet engagement pour corriger
certaines pratiques qui constituaient jusque là, des obstacles à la promotion du
genre. Organisé par l'Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI), le
séminaire de deux jours (du 5 au 6 novembre) avait pour objectif de renforcer
les capacités des participants en matière d'intégration du genre dans la gestion
de leur structure en période post crise (...)A l'aide d'exercices pratiques et
l'analyse du contenu de titres parus dans la presse nationale, les participants
se sont rendus compte de l'écart considérable qui existe entre l'image de
l'homme et de la femme dans le traitement de l'information, et ils ont promis
« rectifier le tir ».
« Grâce à cette
formation reçue, nous ne ménagerons aucun effort pour promouvoir désormais
l'égalité de genre, base d'un développement durable et harmonieux de toute
société», a indiqué le correspondant local de Fraternité Matin, Adou Felix. «
L'engagement que vous avez pris ce jour, démontre que les décideurs des organes
de presse que vous êtes, s'inscrivent véritablement dans un partenariat avec la
mission onusienne en vue de garantir la promotion du genre en Côte d'Ivoire  en
cette période post-crise», a estimé le Chargé de l'Information, Bakary Bakayoko,
qui a exhorté les participants à respecter leur engagement (....)

Ivorian poll not
for Gbagbo to set, says rival, Reuters, 9 November 2009-
Any new election date in Ivory
Coast should be set by broad political agreement and not at the whim of
incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo, opposition leader Henri Konan Bedie said (...)
But while the election commission has yet to announce a new delay, virtually all
sides recognise it is inevitable as the eligibility of over 1 million voters
still needs to be checked. "If enough technical and not political reasons are
put forward ... maybe we can come to an agreement on a delay of a few weeks,"
Bedie, a former president and one of two main rivals to Gbagbo, told Reuters
late on Sunday.

"But we cannot allow (Gbagbo's) Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) to lay down the law
by itself," he said in the interview, conducted in the northern town of Korhogo
while Bedie was campaigning (...)  Rivals have accused Gbagbo of delaying the poll
until he was confident of victory. Analysts also note that opponents want an
earlier poll because they have limited campaign resources and will struggle to
get exposure at time passes. "The state media is being manipulated, purely to
the advantage of the FPI," Bedie said. Gbagbo's party has repeatedly denied such
allegations (...)Bedie said he was campaigning for a
more regulated system to replace Ivory Coast's
liberalised but ailing cocoa sector, seen as crucial to the livelihood of some
six million Ivorians out of a population of some 20 million (...)  Bedie, like
Gbagbo and his other main rival, Alassane Ouattara, wants to restore order to a
sector hit by mismanagement and lack of investment by replacing the plethora of
cocoa bodies with a central, government-run organisation, similar to the one
abandoned a decade ago. "Yes, we foresee a return to this scheme in that we want
to support the (cocoa) and, especially, avoid the proliferation of bodies that
led to Ivory Coast's
spectacular decline," he said.

Célébration du 5ème anniversaire des affrontements patriotes-armée française,

Les patriotes ivoiriens, partisans du président Laurent Gbagbo,
ont commémoré lundi à Abidjan le cinquième anniversaire des affrontements
meurtriers avec l'armée française, "sans haine" envers Paris, mais en exigeant
réparation (...). Réunis dans le calme devant l'hôtel Ivoire, l'un des lieux
symboles des événements de novembre 2004, quelques centaines de personnes ont
demandé "réparation à la France". "Nous célébrons cet anniversaire sans haine
aucune mais avec beaucoup de souvenirs", a affirmé Charles Blé Goudé, leader des
Patriotes, lors de ce rassemblement. "Ce jour-là (9 novembre 2004, ndlr), cette
France que nous avons connue, la France des Droits de l'Homme s'est éloignée de
ses propres valeurs", a-t-il déclaré. De son côté, le président Gbagbo dans un
communiqué, a salué "les héros de la liberté", affirmant qu'il ne les
"oublierait jamais" (...)
