The FPU

The Formed Police Units, placed under the command of the UNPOL Commissioner, are units trained and specialized in the maintenance of law and order and the protection of staff and UN installations. They are deployed in certain strategic parts of the country such as Abidjan (Two units), Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, Daloa, Guiglo (One unit each) and Boundiali (a platoon composed of elements from Bouaké and Yamoussoukro).



Its six units come from Jordan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, are composed of 750 elements and just like the military, they are armed. They are supervised by an FPU Coordination Bureau headed by a director and six advisers.



Achievements:



Ensure public calm and tranquility during public events and demonstrations whether they are calm or violent. Provide security escort for dignitaries on tour, conduct joint patrols throughout the territory, provide free health care to the population, participate in various community activities, assist in major operations such as fighting fire outbreaks, road accidents etc.
