UNOCI CHIEF ATTENDS MEETING OF HEADS OF PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS IN WEST AFRICA

Dakar, 27 May 2011.... The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y. J. Choi, has arrived in Dakar, Senegal to attend the 21st high-level meeting of chiefs of peacekeeping missions in West Africa.

Along with his counterparts from Liberia, Guinea Bissau, the United Nations Office in West Africa and the UN Integrated Office in Sierra Leone, Mr. Choi will discuss the evolution of peace in the sub-region during the meeting which is due to be held on Saturday, 28 May 2011. He will also inform them of the latest developments in the situation in Côte d'Ivoire, which has been marked by the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara on 21 May 2011.

During the one-day meeting, the heads of mission will also discuss the problem of drug trafficking in the sub-region and instability this causes in the countries concerned.
