Atteby William, MP - "We must
use force to free the country"

Notre Voie

 – Member of Parliament
William Atteby said on Sunday, May 16, during a public lecture at Yopougon that
force must be used to free the country. In the following interview, he explains
his position.

Notre Voie:

Why do we need to use force to free Cote d'Ivoire?

William Atteby
:
It is quite simple. We have found out that the Ouagadougou Agreement was
scheduled to last ten months. After 36 months we noticed that we are not making
any progress. The rebels continue to loot the resources of the country in the
north while they have access to the resources generated in the government zone.
Some of them are Ministers and others are in very high position. They have come
to like the power, they have realized that they have this power because they
have taken a part of the country, hostage. That is why I think we need to use
force to liberate the country. For me they are con artists unable to work for
the peaceful deliverance of our nation. (...)

injured and significant material damage was done after a clash between the
villagers of Yassap and Lopou. Shortly, after we arrived at 17:00 we found,
angry people ready to fight and high tension in these two villages of the
district of Dabou. Early in the morning, their residents had waged a fierce
battle that ended with injuries, the taking of forty hostages on both sides and
the burning of a pharmacy. These villagers fought because of a piece of land
separating their villages. (...). In the presence of the gendarmerie, the
prefect of the Lagunes region, Sam Etiassé, (...) reconciled the two villages.
Around 18:30, peace came back in both villages and the hostages were released.
