UNOCI condemns fraudulent use
of its logo

During the weekly press briefing of the mission held in Zouan-Hounien, 750 km
from Abidjan, Mr. Touré outlined the remaining important tasks in the electoral
process. The first task, he said, was the resumption of the appeals process on
registration on provisional electoral list. He said that the achievement of this
operation will lead to the second crucial stage which is production of the
definitive electoral list. The spokesman then outlined the last remaining
stages, including the production and distribution of identity cards and voters'
cards. "After that there will be the transportation of electoral material and
the election campaign", he added. Mr. Touré appealed for everyone's commitment
to ensure that these sensitive phases of the electoral process take place in a
calm atmosphere and in accordance with the agreed rules". He said that for its
part UNOCI will continue to provide various forms of support in order to ensure
that these tasks are successfully carried out and open, fair, free and
transparent elections are successfully carried out.




(...) on another issue the
spokesman warned the population against certain individuals who have been using
UNOCI's name and logo to carry out fraudulent practices. "These persons extract
money from third parties by making false claims that they can provide them with
jobs or finance a Quick Impact project", he said before explaining how the
mission functions as well as the procedure for the financing of Quick Impact
Project. He also reminded them that joining UNOCI was free of charge. (...)"




 




Inauguration of cassava
processing industry

"An industry for the
processing of cassava into attieké (semolina of cassava) jointly financed by the
United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the General Council of
Agboville at 15, 000, 000 Fcfa. It was inaugurated on 16 February in Grand
Morié, about 20 km north of Agboville as part of UNOCI's "Quick Impact projects"
for the fight against poverty.

"After the short council of ministers, in reality a first meeting, between the
Head of State, the Prime minister and the members of the government, Guillaume
Soro told the press that he was satisfied that his team was complete. He seized
the opportunity to announce what his government will do within the coming days.
On the issue of disarmament, the chief of government was not ambiguous.




(...) they will produce a clear
electoral list, a transparent electoral list which reconciles Ivorians and
allows for the organization of election. They will make progress with regard to
reunification. Within the following days we will ensure that the fourth
complementary political agreement, which partly resolves the military issues, is
implemented. We will work to ensure that the process develops in a satisfactory
way. The Head of State invited the ministers to depart from any political trend
to serve the superior interest of the Ivorian nation. (...). We will also work to
address the issue of reunification to make progress so that it is not regarded
as a tabou issue, we will hold discussion to ensure that progress is made in
this domain. It was indeed on this hopeful note that the Head of State ended the
meeting.




 




Guillaume Soro II: The RHDP and
PIT ministers made their entry yesterday

 – "The new
government of Guillaume Soro, born from the dissolution of the previous one on
February 12 by the head of state Laurent Gbagbo, yesterday, Thursday, held its
first meeting. The great attraction yesterday was undoubtedly the presence of
the RHDP and Pit's ministers (...) No absence was reported. During his press
conference the Prime Minister Guillaume Soro expressed his satisfaction.The
meeting itself lasted little more than three quarters of an hour. The Secretary
General of the Presidency, Amedée Couassi Blé, read the decree appointing
members of the government. Then, the new ministers, without exception, were
submitted to a photo ops which ended with a family photo with the Head of the
State and the Prime Minister. (...) "




 




IEC-Bakayoko takes office today

March 5 that the former president of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC),
Robert Beugré Mambé will be replaced by Youssouf Bakayoko. According to a note
by the Prime Minister's service of communication and media the handing down of
the charges will be done at 12: 00 in the IEC's office located in the Deux
Plateaux. (...)

Communicators volunteers for the plebiscite of President Laurent Gbagbo held an
informal debate on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Hotel du Golf. The guests of
the "communicators platform" discussed the electoral process after the new
development in the IEC and said that they wanted broad communication on the
subject. The debate itself was about "The new IEC and the electoral challenges:
what credibility?" For Professor Ouraga Obou who recalled the modalities for the
acquisition of the Ivorian citizenship since 1972 to this day, election is a
fundamental element that causes unrest in Africa. "Their poor organizations have
often led to coups and civil wars," he said. "Therefore, it is good that the
Ivorian government extensively communicates on the issue in order to avoid any
misunderstanding that causes incidents like those  observed in recent days'' he
said (...). To those who think that the list with the five million
crossed-checked voters must not be corrected, the professor of law replied: "In
matters of nationality or election, there are no vested rights."
