PRESIDENT GBAGBO INVITES UNOCI TO A MEETING ON SECURITY PROVISIONS FOR ELECTORAL PROCESS

Abidjan, 30 November 2009... The Principal Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Abou Moussa, took part this afternoon, in a working session on the electoral process and the security provisions for the elections.

At the end of the meeting presided over by the Ivorian head of state, Laurent Gbagbo, Mr. Moussa said that UNOCI had defined the areas in which it would provide a support with regard to security provisions for the elections.

For his part, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Robert Beugré Mambé, who also attended the meeting, said he gave an overview of the situation of the electoral process with regard for the posting of the provisional electoral lists. He urged Ivoirians to continue to show discipline while consulting the lists. "There are problems and we have solutions", added the IEC chairman who indicated that a timetable was already in place for the election date.
"We are waiting to have all the ingredients to announce it and propose it to the government, which in turn, will produce the relevant decree," he said.

In addition to the special representative of the Facilitator of the Inter-Ivorian Dialogue, the commanders of the Impartial Forces and the Ivorian military forces also took part in the meeting.
