Women leaders in Sinematiali educated on social cohesion and gender-based violence

The mobile grassroots campaign team of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) known as made a stopover in the town of Sinematiali ( 600 km north of Abidjan) on Wednesday 17 September 2014 to sensitise women leaders on social cohesion, the protection of civilian population and violence against women.



Salif Boite of UNOCI Human Rights division who led the delegation explained the multiple activities of the UN Mission in the areas of human rights and called on the women to expose the perpetrators of violence against women and girls especially through forced marriages and female genital mutilation (FGM).



The representative of UN Police recalled its mandate to protect the civilian population and called on all the components of the society to collaborate with the forces of law and order. "You must have confidence in the forces of order who are at the service of the people. If there's peace it's because there's security. A good citizen should collaborate with the police and the gendarmerie," Babacar Drame he pointed out.



Earlier, the public information officer, Bakayoko bakery urged the women to promote national reconciliation and social cohesion. "You should be involved without hesitation in the social cohesion and reconciliation dynamic and together in unity and fraternity begin the development of your area which cannot be done without stability," he said.



Discussion also covered peaceful coexistence among the different communities and political parties as well as a sincere collaboration between local security forces and the population.



The women leaders made the commitment to relay the message and knowledge acquired to members of their respective associations.
