Public Information

The Public Information Office implements the communication and information strategy of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) with the aim of informing the population on the mandate and activities of the Mission (S/RES/1528). It also promotes peace and the peace process S/RES/1739 by providing the population with credible and balanced information S/RES/1528.

The Public Information Office (PIO) uses the Mission’s media ONUCI FM Radio, the website, video, photography, publications and printed material, as well as Social Media to carry out its mission. Through its media, the Mission aims to provide a model of professionalism by applying the principles of impartiality, balance and responsibility, in a context where the media have been partisan and lacking in rigour in the treatment of information for a long time.

The recent Security Council Resolution 2284 highlights the use of the radio ONUCI FM by urging to contribute to the overall effort to promote sustainable peace, as well as to provide information about the ongoing transformation of the United Nations’ engagement in Côte d’Ivoire. The Resolution announces the end of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire for 30 June 2017.
