Special Representative receives delegation of the Alliance des Forces Démocratiques de Côte d’Ivoire

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Wednesday, 17 September 2014, met with a delegation of the Alliance des Forces Démocratiques de Côte d'Ivoire (AFD – a coalition of opposition parties) led by its president Mr. Pascal Affi Nguessan at the headquarters of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire, in Abidjan.

Speaking at the end of the encounter, Mrs Boni Claverie, the spokesperson of the Alliance, explained to journalists that the delegation had come to see the Special Representative to explain to her the reasons for the AFD's decision to suspend their participation in the work of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

« We explained to her the reasons that had led us to take the decision to suspend our participation in the work of the Independent Electoral Commission », said Mrs Boni Claverie.

She also confirmed the willingness of the Alliance des Forces Démocratiques to take part in peaceful elections as well as in the work of the IEC if the consensus which had been validated by all the parties is respected.
