UNOCI trains 6115 police and gendarmes on security for presidential election in October 2015

As part of its mandate to accompany Ivorian security forces, and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2226, the United Nations Police (UNPOL) in Côte d'Ivoire (UNPOL) on Friday, 18 September 2015, launched a training programme for some 2000 gendarmes from legions, companies, groups and brigades of the Ivorian gendarmerie based throughout the country on how to provide security for the presidential election to be held on 25 October 2015.



In addition, a capacity-building training programme for 4,115 police officers on providing security for the presidential election was initiated on 2 September 2015 throughout the country.



The aim of these activities being carried out by UNPOL and which are aimed at a total of 6,115 police officers and gendarmes, is to provide the participants with the required skills to secure the elections while ensuring that human rights and civil liberties are respected in accordance with international democratic norms.
