Election Security: Special Representative takes part in a joint UNOCI-Ivorian security forces exercise in Séguéla

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on 22 September 2015, will take part in a joint exercise to be carried out by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire and Ivorian security forces in Séguéla in the Worodogou region, situated at 484 km from Abidjan in the centrewest of the country.



Mrs Mindaoudou will be accompanied by the Ivorian Ministers of the Interior and Defence, as well as ambassadors and the country representatives of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States.



The exercise is part of a series of operations initiated at the beginning of the year by Ivorian security forces as part of security provisions for the presidential election on 25 October 2015. Similar exercises have already been planned and carried out in Daloa, Bouaké and Korhogo. They demonstrate the determination of Ivorian civilian and security authorities to ensure that forthcoming elections are transparent and inclusive and take place in a safe and secure environment.



The operation will conclude the mentoring work being carried out by UNOCI with Ivorian security forces as part of the security sector reform process in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2226 (2015).
