UNOCI Tour in Boundiali: the local population sensitised on the need to respect human rights and to promote a culture of peace

Community leaders, women and students of Boundiali, a city located at 100 km from Korhogo, were sensitized, on 25 March 2015, on the respect of human rights, the culture of peace and non-violence, by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).

This activity took place during the sensitization campaign of the UN mission known as UNOCI Tour.

On this occasion, the Coordinator of the Office of UNOCI in Korhogo, Adama Tinde, called on the population of Boundiali to respect Ivorian laws on gender-based violence and child trafficking.

The Secretary-General of the Prefecture of Korhogo, Ouassolou Gnépa and the Deputy Mayor, Kounandi Touré urged the population to promote the culture of peace and human rights, as the country is heading for presidential elections in October 2015.

The offices of Human Rights (DDH), Public Information, the United Nations police, the Legal Clinic of Korhogo and the NGO '' Notre Terre Nourricière" of Boundiali took part in the discussion session, which mainly focused on women and children's rights, non-violence in schools and protection of civilians.

Following oral presentations made by the Mission's sections and their local partners, the population asked the different actors involved in the promotion of human rights and the culture of peace to help them register their children at birth, and take care of homeless children as well as stateless people.

Community and religious leaders committed themselves, for their part, to educate the population to put an end to illegal and harmful practices, including female circumcision and forced marriages.
