UNOCI supports initiative to promote social cohesion in Korhogo

Youths of Poro resident in Soba quarter in the Korhogo municipality organized a cultural and sporting event on Sunday 31 August to reinforce social cohesion. The event which comprised folk songs and dances, dramatic sketches on peace and reconciliation, a marathon and maracana football match was punctuated by a sensitization talk on the Ebola virus.

The UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) encouraged the promoters of the event by donating a trophy and two balls to the youths. "The UN Mission is committed to supporting any initiative aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation in Cote d'Ivoire especially in view of the forthcoming election," Mr. Bakary Bakayoko of UNOCI's Public Information Office remarked.

The leader of the youth association, the Union of Youths United for the Progress of Soba, Ouattara Beh Isssoufou said the aim was to reinforce peace and reconciliation not only among the youths of Soba but among the boys and girls of the entire division.

The patron of the event, Jean Claude Yeo thanked the UNOCI delegation for its support and urged the young men and women to go to school in order to contribute to the development of their municipality through the mastery of information technology.
