UN Special Representative received in audience by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara

The Special Representative of UN Secretary-General in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou on 1 September 2014 was received in audience by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara.



The Special Representative and the Ivorian President discussed preventive measures taken by the Ivorian government against the Ebola Virus Disease and the assistance the UN System in general and the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in particular are giving the government within the framework of the Ebola crisis.



Regarding the prevention of the Ebola fever, at the level of the UN System, the World Health organization (WHO) is spearheading the assistance to the government, Mrs. Mindaoudou pointed out, recalling that "the WHO and the government had defined the modalities of his support."





Concerning the support of UNOCI, the Special Representative announced that the Mission was working with the Ivorian army, the Forces Republicaines de Cote d'Ivoire and the Ivorian Police within the framework of surveillance along the borders. "UNOCI is ready to assist the government in the implementation of its strategy against the Ebola fever," she said, indicating that it was necessary to step up vigilance with regard to prevention.



"We are also intervening in the area of communication by echoing the communication strategy defined by government and are open to study other areas in which UNOCI can be of assistance," Mrs. Mindaoudou added.
