UNOCI Special Representative receives the ambassadors of Ghana and Switzerland

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Monday, 10 November 2014, successively received Ambassadors Peter Augustine Blay of Ghana and Thomas Litscher of Switzerland accredited to Côte d'Ivoire, at the UN Mission's headquarters in Abidjan.

Speaking at the end of his meeting with the Special Representative, the Ambassador of Ghana said he had reaffirmed his country's availability to continue to support the UN peacekeeping mission in Côte d'Ivoire.

Mr. Blay said he also congratulated the Special Representative for UNOCI's contribution to peace, stability and reconstruction in Côte d'Ivoire.

«I can say that UNOCI and in particular the Special Representative have played and continue to play an important role in the normalisation process in this country. I would also like to say that if all the parties cooperate we will have successful elections next year, » he added.

For his part, the Ambassador of Switzerland in Côte d'Ivoire, Thomas Litscher, told journalists he came to find out from the Special Representative about the United Nations' commitment in Côte d'Ivoire.

«The United Nations still has a very important operation in Côte d'Ivoire. I wanted to find out more about the Organisation's commitment, what it has achieved so far and what still remains to be done taking into account the holding of elections next year, » said the Swiss diplomat.

Mr. Litscher also said that Switzerland fully supports UNOCI and will continue to actively participate in the UN Mission by providing it with custom officers.
