UNOCI schools caravan discusses civic responsibilities with pupils in Agnibilekrou

The schools sensitization campaign of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) was in the Lycee Moderne of Agnibilekrou on Wednesday 26 November to discuss the need to create a peaceful environment in school.



The schools caravan, launched since 2007, was organized by the Public Information Office of UNOCI and was aimed making young people conscious of the need to change their behavior in order to contribute to peace building. The Public Information Officer in Bondoukou, Desire Ndagijimana called on the pupils to "join UNOCI in the promotion of the culture of peace for a better future in Cote d'Ivoire."



The Principal of the Lycee Moderne, Eliane Koffi Brognan Assasse said she was pleased with the holding of the caravan in her school, pointing out that the initiative was in line with the Ministry of national education policy of promoting civic and patriotic education for pupils.



Other UNOCI components like the Human Rights; and the Disarmameent, Demobilisation and Reintegration divisions as well as UN Police presented their various roles in the accomplishment of the UN peacekeeping mandate to the pupils.



The school's population of 4000 including the staff took part in the caravan presided over by the Secretary-general of the Prefecture in the presence of the Mayor of the town.
