A detachment of the Niger Battalion of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) based in Gagnoa on 27 October 2014 came to the rescue of 13 victims of a serious road accident along the Gagnoa-Daloa highway.

As soon as the Chief of contingent, Lt. Harou Garba and the head of UN Police in the area, Jean Herbert Rakotomalala were alerted, the fire brigade and medical team of UNOCI were mobilised to the scene of the accident after informing local police authorities.

The victims, including 4 children who were on board a 4-wheel drive pickup vehicle that had somersaulted killing one person, were rushed in a UNOCI ambulance to the emergency wards of the regional hospital Centre and the general hospital in Gagnoa.

The UNOCI medical team also donated antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and anti-tetanus drugs for first aid treatment to the hospitals and took part in the initial stage of treatment.
