UNOCI Chief meets NDI Director

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and Chief of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Friday, 11 September 2015, met with the Resident Director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Mrs Christiane Pelchat, to discuss the organisation's activities for the forthcoming presidential election.



Speaking after the meeting, Mrs Pelchat told the press : "I told Mrs Mindaoudou that together with our Observation Platform on Elections, we are in the process of setting up a team of observers for the presidential election".



The NDI director said that almost 800 women and men will be deployed in polling stations to observe the voting process. "These observers are now being trained for polling day", Mrs Pelchat added.



With regard to the code of conduct signed by political parties in 2008, Mrs Pelchat said that "the idea was to see political parties can renew their commitment to the code and how new candidates can become signatories to it ».
