UNOCI APPEALS FOR CALM AND SERENITY DURING LOCAL BY-ELECTIONS ON 21 JULY 2013

Abidjan, 19 July 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Aïchatou Mindaoudou, is appealing to all political parties and/or independent candidates involved in the regional and municipal by-elections scheduled to be held on Sunday, 21 July 2013 in Doropo, Anyama, Bettié and in the Tchologo to ensure they take place in a calm and serene environment.



The Special Representative urges all candidates and their supporters to behave responsibly, show tolerance and respect the principles of democracy to ensure that the choice of the people are respected.
