Tolou holds sport for peace event

The first edition of a festival dubbed the Olympiades was held on Saturday 12 April 2014 in Tolou, Tabou division, 470 km from Abidjan to promote peace. The sporting and cultural event attracted hundreds of spectators who were treated to football matches, nautical sports competition, traditional and modern dances.

Addressing the spectators and players, the head of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) delegation to the event, Armand Bessala said they had come to remind them of the importance of peace. "We have come to support you in your peace efforts as demanded by our mandate and especially to urge you to put peace at the centre of your community life because without it, you cannot achieve the wellbeing you all aspire to attain," he said.

The 1st deputy Mayor of Tabou, Isaac Noman advised the population to make peace and social cohesion their duty. "Dear parents of Tabou, consider yourselves as ambassadors of peace and messengers of the good news you are going to receive today at this sporting and cultural event," he said.

The sporting competition brought together a dozen men's and women's football teams.
