Special Representative welcomes the resumption of political dialogue between the FPI and the Ivorian Government and urges the Ivorian politicians to work resolutely for national reconciliation

Abidjan, 22 May 2014... The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, welcomes the resumption of political dialogue between the Ivorian Popular Front - Front Populaire Ivoirien (FPI) and the Ivorian Government on Thursday, 22 May 2014. This resumption of political dialogue is proof of the willingness of the parties to put the national interest above everything.



The Special Representative welcomes the atmosphere of détente and cordiality which prevailed during the discussions and is encouraged by the commitment made by the two parties to favour dialogue as the only way to resolve other pending issues.



The Special Representative urges the parties to work resolutely towards the consolidation of political dialogue, which is the only means of strengthening the national reconciliation process in Cte d'Ivoire.
