Special Representative visits Marahoué Region

‎The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou is visiting the Marahoué Region in the centre of Côte d'Ivoire from 23 to 24 February 2015. During her visit she will go to Bouaflé and Angovia village to preside over a series of activities in response to commitments made by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) during the 33rd edition of United Nations Days organized in this area in April 2014. Among the commitments made by UNOCI are the renovation of the Henri Konan Bedié Cultural Centre in Bouaflé, the organisation of a discussions platform with elected officials to strengthen their contribution to national reconciliation and identifying the needs of Angovia village which had been the violent inter-community disputes following the post-electoral crisis in 2010.



The Henri Konan Bedié Cultural Centre which was renovated with funds from UNOCI's Quick Impact Projects programme and handed over to local authorities on Monday, 23 February 2015.



On Tuesday, 24 February 2015, the Special Representative will preside over the opening ceremony of a discussions platform for some elected officials and dignitaries, including prefects, deputy prefects from Haut Sassandra, Marahoué, Worodougou, Béré, Goh and Loh Djiboua regions at the newly-renovated HKB Cultural Centre in Bouaflé.



After Bouaflé, she will go to Angovia to launch the renovation of the local health centre.



In her discussions with local people, government authorities, and the media during her visit, Mrs Mindaoudou has stressed the importance of preserving and strengthening social cohesion as a guarantee for a peaceful environment conducive to the holding of democratic elections in Côte d'Ivoire in 2015.
