Special Representative meets delegation of West African electoral mission

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aichatou Mindaoudou, on Wednesday, met a delegation of the Network of Electoral Commissions of the Community of West African States - Réseau des Commissions Electorales de la Communauté des Etats de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (RESAO), which came to present its Action Plan and explain the objective of its mission in Côte d'Ivoire. The delegation was accompanied by two representatives of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Côte d'Ivoire, namely the second vice-president of the IEC, Mr. Gervais Coulibaly and Mrs Marguerite Yolibi Kone, IEC central commissioner.



The First vice president of RESAO, General Siaka Sangaré, told journalists that it was important for his organisation to accompany the different electoral process in the region in 2015, before explaining the nature of their assistance. "The kind of assistance that we give involves providing experts, material and/or the means to strengthen capacity". For this reason, General Sangaré added, the Network decided to carry out an exploratory missions to meet electoral officials to discuss their needs and the challenges they face. "It is in this regard that we decided to come to Côte d'Ivoire to meet officials of the IEC, as well as other actors and representatives of certain institutions," he added.
