Special Representative and the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs discuss progress made by Côte d’Ivoire on the path to long term stability

The criteria by which the progress made by Côte d'Ivoire on the path to long term stability is measured and which will in turn provide the basis for planning its transition was the main topic of discussion between the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou and the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Charles Diby Koffi, on Friday, 8 November 2013.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs organised the meeting to give an update of process which started almost four months ago and refine the criteria used following a request from the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI). « We are happy to receive all those who have provided their inputs. I would also like to thank all of our colleagues who have designated their representatives, that is to say their director-generals and their secretary-generals to participate in the process. The different inputs were very useful," said the Foreign Affairs Minister who explained what the next stage of the process would be.

«The United Nations is confident it about the level of progress that Côte d'Ivoire can attain on these criteria,», said Mrs Mindaoudou. « The United Nations is here to accompany Côte d'Ivoire. This is out commitment, this is the mandate that the Security Council has given to UNOCI, this is the mandate of each specialised organisation that is here," added the Special Representative.

In its Resolution 2112, adopted on 30 July 2013, the Security Council makes provisions for the criteria used to measure the progress made by Côte d'Ivoire on long term stability and in planning its transition to be refined. This exercise will be the topic of regular meetings between UNOCI and the Ivorian Government.
