Korhogo: UNOCI promotes regional petanque tournament as part of the reconciliation process

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), on Saturday, 9 November 2013, organized the regional petanque tournament, in Korhogo, 588 km north of Abidjan.

The objective of the tournament was to encourage people to become involved in the reconciliation and social cohesion process through sport. The competition, held in partnership with the Wobeh Petanque Club, gathered together thirty-five petanque teams from Tafire, Ferkéssédougou, Sinématiali and Korhogo.

For the Chairman of Wobeh petanque club, Youssouf Koulibaly, promoting the fusion of culture and their profession through sport was a clear manifestation of their commitment to the culture of peace.

At the end of the competition, which was punctuated by messages and gestures of peace and union, the team from Korhogo won over the team from Ferkéssédougou by 13 points to 12.

It should be recalled that this was the second edition of the regional competition which is supported by UNOCI.
