The new Special Representative of UN Secretary-General for Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou on Monday reiterated her readiness to collaborate with the Ivorian government ."It is a duty for me to introduce myself to the Prime Minister and reaffirm my readiness to continue the excellent collaboration between the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the government of Cote d'Ivoire," she declared to the press after a maiden visit to Prime Minister Kablan Duncan. Le Nouveau Reveil highlights another maiden visit by Mrs. Mindaoudou to Foreign Minister Charles Diby after which she said she would work toward the enhancement of the image of the UN Mission. The new head of UNOCI, who holds a doctorate in international relations from the University of Paris, Sorbonne, arrived in Abidjan a few days ago at the start of her term of office and replaces Mr. Bert Koenders.



Le Patriote, Notre Voie: President Alassane Puattara has called on the FPI party to show humility and ask for forgiveness from victims and families of victims (of the post electoral conflict). He said such a gesture of humility would enable the reconciliation process to move ahead and put an end to the cycle of violence in Cote d'Ivoire. Speaking in Korhogo yesterday at the last lap of an official visit to the north of the country,President Ouattara appealed to the FPI to join the peace process, saying the peace train has picked up speed and was going at a fast pace. Meanwhile L'Inter carries a response of FPI interim president, Miaka Oureto to the Head of State's call. Mr. Oureto said the FPI was ready to accept the government's call but not at any price. In an interview broadcast yesterday over the UN Radio in Cote d'Ivoire, ONUCI FM, Mr.Oureto said he expected the government to implement certain points earlier agreed upon and to release FPI youth leader Koua Justin as a gesture of good will.



Le Mandat: The government has decided to deploy agents of the Operations Coordination Centre (CCDO) to Bouake and San Pedro in a bid to curb the increasing crime rate in urban areas. Every town in the interior of the country will eventually have its centre to fight against high banditry, racketeering and subversion.



Le Nouveau Reveil The National Press Council (CNP) has suspended the daily newspaper, Le Quotidien d'Abidjan for the next seven editions and withdrawn the professional card of its director for 2 months. The regulatory body is blaming the newspaper for inciting ethnic hatred and popular insurrection in an article published on page 3 of its 4 July edition. Meanwhile the director of the paper, Allan Alliali told Le Nouveu Reveil that the CNP sanction was "politically motivated, unjust and excessive."
