Intercommunity violence in Bouna : UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Babacar Cisse, assesses the situation on the ground

The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire and UN Humanitarian Coordinator, M’Baye Babacar Cissé, accompanied by head of UN agencies, on 30 March 2016, went on a visit to to assess the humanitarian situation following the intercommunity violence which took place in the town.

The visit comes after that of the head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) to Bouna, on Monday, 28 March 2016, during which she stressed the need to consolidate peace and strengthen cohesion and dialogue.

Everything will be done to help you

On their arrival in Bouna, Mr. Babacar Cissé and his delegation had a working session with local authorities to discuss the urgent actions that should be undertaken in order to guarantee that humanitarian aid and security are provided for the internally displaced.

« Everything will be done to help you,», Mr. Cissé told the internally displaced persons and local authorities.

The UN delegation led by the Deputy SRSG included representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the International Organisation for Migration (OIM) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
