Duékoué : UNOCI and Lega Aid Clinic sensitises school children

The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) and the Legal Aid Clinic in Guiglo, on Thursday, 21 April 2016, held a sensitisation session on the UN Mission’s mandate and the role of the Clinic for school children in Duékoué. The activity was part of a Careers Day organised by the Information and Orientation Centre of the Ministry of Education.

The discussions provided an opportunity for the school children to have a better understanding of the mandates of UNOCI’s Public Information Office and Human Rights Division and their partner the Legal Aid Clinic. The focus was on the promotion and protection of children’s rights, children’s acccess to education, respect for education officials and the role of the UN Mission’s radio ONUCI FM, in sensitising and disseminating information. UNOCI and the Legal Aid Clinic personnel stressed the need for school children to maintain a peaceful environment in school in order to learn better.

Questions from the school children focused mainly on UNOCI’s role in Côte d’Ivoire and the different employment opportunities offered by the United Nations.

The opening ceremony of the Careers Day was presided over by the secretary-general of the local authority, Abdoulaye Mané. In his address he highlighted the importance of such events and thanked the different participants, including UNOCI, who had contributed to providing the school children with useful information.
