BISSAU TO HOST 14TH MEETING OF CHIEFS OF UN PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS IN WEST AFRICA



Abidjan, 23 August 2008...The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y.J. Choi, will participate in the 14th meeting of the heads of UN peacekeeping missions in West Africa in Bissau on Monday, 25 August 2008.

During the two-day meeting, which will also be attended by the Special Representatives of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and the UN Office in West Africa (UNOWA), Mr. Choi will meet the head of the UN Office for the Consolidation of Peace in Guinea Bissau (UNOGBIS).

Participants will discuss the latest developments in the sub-region since the 13th meeting, which was held in Dakar, Senegal on 13 and 14 June 2008. The agenda will also include a presentation on the recommendations of the 16th meeting of Force Commanders of UN peacekeeping missions in West Africa, which took place in Monrovia, Liberia on 21 August 2008.

The periodic meeting of heads of UN peacekeeping missions will also include a presentation by the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas.
