UNOCI urges villagers in Madoguhé to promote peaceful elections in 2015

A few months before the next presidential election, the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) continues to promote a peaceful election. To this end, the traditional awareness campaign of the UN Mission known as ONUCI Tour was on Thursday, 19 March 2015 in Madoguhé, 15 km away from Daloa.

The various UNOCI components explained their mandates and activities to villagers and invited the diverse communities of Madoguhé to take an active part in the national reconciliation and peace process.

For Brou Hyacinthe of UNOCI's Human Rights Division, who led the delegation, peace is a prerequisite for any development. "Peace is necessary for peaceful elections. Get involved so that your village will be a model of peace," he said.

Anicet Bekrou of the Public Information Office in Daloa asked the population to avoid rumours during election time. "Very soon, we will have elections. Please avoid spreading false information, because rumours are usually the source of conflict between communities especially in rural areas. When you come across any news you are not sure of, you should inform your village chief" said M. Bekrou.

The Deputy Chief of Madoguhé, Martin Togouri Doubai, welcomed UNOCI's approach. "This morning you have allowed our people to speak their minds about the current peace process. We are grateful, "he said.
