UNOCI trains 35 NGO officials on managing projects for ex-combatants

A workshop to provide better training for organisations in charge of implementing Community Reinsertion Projects (CRP) for ex-combatants in the Tonkpi, Guemon and Cavally regions was organized by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in Man, (570 km northwest of Abidjan) on 5 November 2014. Participants were from five non-governmental organisations and small companies, initially selected to manage 24 projects to benefit 508 ex-combatants in the districts of Man, Danané, Zouan Hounien and Bangolo in western Côte d'Ivoire.

During the training session, the 35 participants, including 12 women, various themes were covered by the modules, among them: "Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reinsertion – understanding and knowing the differences"; "Communication and advocacy techniques for a better reinsertion of ex-combatants through community projects'' ; "Social cohesion and conflict prevention for lasting reinsertion of demoblised ex-combatants"; "Community reinsertion project: approach, implementation, challenges and perspectives" and "Crosscutting issues in CRP: vulnerable groups, gender, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health".

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the representative of Kouadi Women's Association based in Danané, Eugénie Gueu, thanked UNOCI for organizing the training session and assured the UN Mission and its partners that everyone was eager to become involved in implementing the projects on the ground.

It should be noted that the training workshop was organized following the launch of projects which have already been implemented on the ground and entirely financed by UNOCI through its DDR Division. The aim of these projects is to support the efforts of the Ivorian Authority for DDR (ADDR) which is in charge of the DDR process in Côte d'Ivoire.
