UNOCI supports training programme for members of the National Commission for Human Rights

The members of the National Commission for Human Rights are in a training workshop to build their capacity in human rights issues from 24 to 25 September 2013.

Technical support for the training, which will instruct participants on human rights observation mechanisms, investigation techniques and writing human rights reports, is being provided by the Human Rights Division of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).

Addressing members of the Commission, the head of UNOCI's Human Rights Division, Eugene Nindorera, said that people's expectation of the organisation is that it should be impartial.

"{It should say exactly what happened and should not allow itself to be intimidate by one camp or the other}, " stressed Mr. Nindorera. He then appealed to the State to support the Commission on the work it is doing..

One of the participants at the training, Commissioner Yeo Adama, said that at the end of the training, the Commission should have acquired good practices, be cohesive and have one common vision.

For Commissioner Oulai Madeleine, another participant, the training will strengthen their capacity to be close to ordinary Ivorians and to listen to what they have to say.
