UNOCI supports return of Ivorian refugees

Repatriation operations for Ivorian refugees in the sub-region continue. On Thursday, 21 September 2013, some 150 Ivorians who chose to voluntarily return arrived from Liberia.

These refugees were warmly welcomed on their arrival in Toulepleu by the Ivorian Government's Service d'Aide et d'Assistance aux Réfugiés et Apatrides (SAARA), at the transit site in the western town.

The operation, organised by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and its partners, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Catholic NGO Caritas, was supported by UNOCI. The Mission's Moroccan contingent provided escort for the refugees' convoy and security at the transit camp where they spent the night.

After going through the required formalities, the majority of the returning refugees went to their respective localities in the Toulepleu, Guiglo and Taï, area escorted by the Moroccan peacekeepers.
