UNOCI Special Representative calls for restraint

Côte d'Ivoire is moving towards presidential election in October 2015. This election will provide an opportunity for Ivorians to definitively turn the page on past crises and revive their democratic principles.

On this occasion, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and Head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, appeals to all political actors to show restraint in their speeches and to do all they can to contribute to the maintenance of a peaceful electoral environment, the strengthening of social cohesion and the consolidation of national reconciliation.

In addition, she urged them to ensure that their supporters make a commitment to irreversible peace for a successful electoral process according to the wishes of Ivorians.

UNOCI and the international community remains convinced of the clarity and sense of responsibility of Ivorians. They have no doubt that everyone will put the general interest, democracy and peace above all else during the election in October 2015.
