UNOCI rural sensitisation on development and social cohesion goes to Ganzon

UNOCI's grassroots mobile campaign programme dubbed ''ONUCI Tour" made a stopover in Ganzon (541 km north-west of Abidjan) on 18 October 2013 to stimulate awareness on economic development and social cohesion.

The representative of UNOCI Public Information Office spoke to the population on the handling of rumours. "{The handling of rumours should be part of your daily concerns. You should stifle it immediately before it starts to spread}," he advised.

Speaking about the problem of land ownership, he called on them to consult the administrative and traditional authorities on matters related to rural land. "{They will direct you on how to go about the matter}," he said.

For his part, the representative of UNOCI Security Section urged the population to collaborate frankly with the national and impartial forces in order to ensure their protection.

The Human Rights representative stressed the need to respect the rights to health, security and other rights. "{When a human rights problem arises, inform the village Chief who would link up with the local administrative authorities who work in close collaboration with UNOCI}," he said. Regarding the issue of rape, he cautioned the population against out-of court settlement which he said encouraged impunity. "{Rape victims suffer from psychological trauma that is difficult to cure}," he pointed out.
