UNOCI rehabilites the primary school in Nabonkaha

The primary school in Nabonkaha, a sous-préfecture in Ferkessédougou, situated 640 km north Abidjan, has a new image. It has just been rehabilitated and equipped by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), at a cost of 8,495,833 FCFA, as part of its Quick Impact Projects (QIPS) programme.



The new school building now has two blocks comprising three classes, one block with four toilets and a canteen. The rehabilitation by UNOCI was initiated by parents through the schools management committee in the town.

For the UNOCI's Civil Affairs Officer, Dabla Touré, « this is an opportunity to provide for children's right to education but also promote the importance of educating girls in the rural areas ».



A total of 280 children will benefit from UNOCI's donation. « The rehabilitation and equipping of our school as well as the canteen will encourage us to work better and flourish in a wonderful environment which would lead to us obtaining the best results in this area," said one of the pupils calledCoulibaly Mariam.



For his part, the deputy prefect of Ferkessédougou, Kouadio Séraphin, who presiding over the ceremony, the handing over of Nabonkaha primary school « is an act of development aimed at assuring the future of the children in the village during a period of reconstruction ». UNOCI, he added, has always understand that « the consolidation of peace in Côte d'Ivoire needs the training and educating of the most fragile sector of its population which is its children»
